Steven King is a keynote speaker at the Self-Service Innovation Summit, where he will discuss how AI-powered robots are revolutionizing industries. The summit is from December 9-11 in Tampa, Florida.
As artificial intelligence continues to advance, so does its integration into the realm of robotics. The powerful combination is reshaping industries, from manufacturing to retail and logistics.
It’s the topic of a keynote at the upcoming Self-Service Innovation Summit taking place Dec. 9-11 in Tampa, Florida. Registration continues through Dec. 6.
The summit, which is being hosted by Networld Media Group, brings together B2C brands to learn from industry leaders, network among peers and hear from top innovators when it comes to self-service technology. Networld Media Group is a leading business-to-business media communications company specializing in digital media, associations and events in the mobile, self-service, digital signage, retail, food service and financial services industries.
Steven King, CEO of Blue Sky Robotics, will present the talk, “The Future of Self-Service: Emerging Technologies Revolutionizing Customer Experience and Expectations.”
In a phone interview with Kioskmarketplace.com, King underscored the importance of a human-centric approach to AI.
A human-centric approach to AI
One of the core principles that King emphasizes as important to advancing AI integration is an unwavering commitment to human-centered design.
“We study what people are actually doing, not just what they say they’re doing,” he said. This approach ensures AI is used to augment human capabilities, not replace them. By focusing on understanding user needs and preferences, manufacturers are able to develop solutions that are intuitive, efficient and enhance the overall user experience.
Revolutionizing industries with AI-powered robotics
Blue Sky Robotics’ AI-powered robots are making significant strides across various industries. In the manufacturing sector, automated robots can perform complex tasks with precision and speed.
“By automating repetitive and hazardous tasks, we improve workplace safety and productivity,” said King.
The retail industry is also benefiting from the integration of AI-powered robots. These robots can efficiently stock shelves, assist customers with product information, and even process payments.
“By automating mundane tasks, retailers can focus on enhancing customer experiences and driving sales,” said King.
The power of AI in self-service
By leveraging AI, King and Blue Sky Robotics are developing solutions that enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. One example is the use of AI-powered kiosks. The self-service terminals can handle a variety of tasks, such as check-in, check-out and information retrieval. By incorporating natural language processing and computer vision, the kiosks can provide a seamless and personalized user experience.
Another application of AI in self-service is robotic process automation. Robotic process automation involves the use of software robots to automate repetitive tasks, such as data entry, form filling and report generation. By automating these tasks, businesses can improve productivity, reduce errors and free up human workers to focus on more strategic activities.
The future of AI-powered automation
The future of AI-powered automation is promising, according to King. As technology continues to evolve, the industry can expect to see more sophisticated and versatile robots capable of performing a wider range of tasks, from autonomous driving to personalized healthcare.
However, it is essential to approach this future with caution and foresight. King suggested that by prioritizing ethical considerations, responsible development and human-centered design, manufacturers can harness the power of AI to create a better future for all.
Trust is essential and easily broken
King emphasized trust in AI hinges on transparency and honesty.
He mentioned Elon Musk’s recent demonstration of humanoid robots that sparked a conversation about transparency and trust in AI.
While the technological advancement of these robots is impressive, King said the revelation that human operators were remotely controlling significant aspects of their interactions has eroded public confidence.
“Elon Musk misled doing a demo about what the robots were able to do. And the human interaction part was actually managed by humans in a remote location, not the actual robots,” he said. This lack of transparency, King said, “caused a lack of trust. And there’s already a fear behind AI.”
To build trust, AI practitioners must prioritize transparency and ethical considerations.
“We, as practitioners, have to make sure that we are being very transparent and very clear on what is human-driven and what is AI-driven,” said King. By openly discussing the limitations of AI and the role of human operators, the industry can mitigate public fears and ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI systems.
